Varicose Vein

Varicose veins are prominent, large veins, commonly found in the legs and feet, and are caused by increased pressure over time on these areas. Mild varicose veins are usually only cause for aesthetic concern, but severe varicose veins can become an urgent care problem if they cause aching or discomfort, as they can cause more serious circulatory problems.

Some symptoms of varicose veins are:

  • Veins that are dark purple or blue
  • Veins that appear twisted or bulging
  • An achy or heavy feeling in the affected area
  • Burning, throbbing, cramping, or swelling of the affected area
  • Worsened pain after sitting or standing for a long time
  • Itching around the veins
  • Skin ulcers near the ankle (which are a sign of a more severe vascular disease, which requires urgent care)

Exercise, elevating the legs, and wearing compression stockings can all help to ease the pain and appearance of varicose veins, but if the symptoms still persist, you should seek urgent care.

At Urgent Care LA, our doctors can assess your varicose veins and prescribe a treatment that is best for you. Treatments may include compression stockings, exercise, losing weight, not wearing tight clothing, elevating your legs, or minimally-invasive surgery. In severe cases that involve leg ulcers, endoscopic vein surgery may be required.
